Farmfair: Winning genes keep ribbons in the pockets

Garth Rancier, of Killam, Alta., wins the Supreme Champions female show at Farmfair. The simmental cow's family has won three trucks from Farmfair and won twice at Agribition.

“We knew he was special right off the start and have been grooming him for the show. You just kind of know. You see calves born every day and you see the special ones. He looked like something that could carry on the genetics that his parents had,” said Latimer.
Like the winning female, the winning bull also comes from a long line of champions. His sire was champion Angus bull at Farmfair. The grandsire on the maternal side of the bull was supreme champion.
“We won a truck with his great grand sire.”
Latimer’s winning bulls have won him four trucks at Farmfair.
Latimer said the genetics from the bull have already been sold to the U.S., South America and throughout western Canada.
