A dozen cattle potentially exposed to BSE in British Columbia have tested negative for the disease.

As part of its investigation into Canada’s fifth case of BSE, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency tested cattle that could have eaten the same feed as the infected animal.

Another 11 animals from the same feed group are being evaluated and will be tested shortly. All together CFIA has investigated 146 animals of interest, which include cattle from the animal’s feed group and its two most recently born offspring.

Of this group 74 cattle have previously died, 34 were untraceable because of lack of information, 23 were located and 15 were exported to the United States.

It is not unusual to have 34 untraceable animals out of 146, CFIA said on its information bulletin.

The feed investigation is continuing.
