A syndicate of Canadians and Americans has paid $195,000 for a half interest, half possession in an Alberta-raised bull.

Offered at the Remitall Cattle Co. annual production sale in October, the polled Hereford calf born in January 2004 was named the Canadian national Hereford champion at the recent Toronto Royal Winter Fair. The bull, Remitall Patriot ET 13P, will be on display at the Canadian Western Agribition and may compete in the supreme champion exhibition Nov. 27.

A half interest and half possession of Patriot’s sire sold for $40,000 at the same sale to Carter Creek Cattle Co. of Georgia.

The top selling heifer went for $11,750 to La Grand Herefords of South Dakota.

Overall, the Hereford sale brought in $506,825 on 64.33 lots, offering bulls, females, sexed embryos and flushes. The average for 12.83 bulls was $24,887.

Remitall Cattle Co. is located west of Olds, Alta., and is owned by Louis, Garry and Bryan Latimer. The family has been in the purebred polled Hereford business for more than 50 years. They also raise purebred Black Angus.
