West wins for blooms

The West came up with winners in Canada’s plant beautification contest.

More than 100 towns, villages and cities were entered in this year’s Communities in Bloom awards. Judging took place this summer and at the awards ceremony Sept. 27, several small western communities won.

Mundare, Alta., won for the village with up to 1,000 people; Roblin, Man., for 2,000; Unity, Sask., for 3,000; Neepawa, Man., for 5,000; and Ladysmith, B.C., for up to 10,000.

In the category that pairs a past winner with a new participating community, Westlock and Legal, Alta., won at the medium municipality level.

In the international challenge, the small category was won by the twinned pair of Boissevain, Man., and Audley, England.
