Farmers who want to learn to do their jobs better can check out www.agtraining.ca.

The new website is a project of the Saskatchewan Council for Community Development.

Sheila Ragush of the council said the group did a survey in 2003 on behalf of the Saskatchewan learning department.

“It recommended developing some sort of clearinghouse for agriculture training information,” she said.

The site lists educational institutions where producers, farm labourers and agribusinesses can expand their skills.

Most of the institutions and courses listed are in Saskatchewan but the website will eventually list programs across Canada.

Ragush said people are looking for “soft skills” related to marketing, accounting and managing people.

People can also call a toll-free line for more details at 866-310-2283.

The project will be funded for 18 months by the provincial department and the Canadian Adaptation and Rural Development fund. Ragush said the council hopes private sponsorship will eventually make the website self-sustaining.
