A grain elevator researcher is seeking information on elevators in Saskatchewan for a new website and book on the subject.
Jim Pearson of Delia, Alta., has visited elevators across Alberta and Saskatchewan to compile histories and photographs and collect stories.
He says elevators are an important part of prairie history.
“All were a landmark,“ he said. “You could tell where you were.”
His latest project is Vanishing Sentinels: The Remaining Grain Elevators of Western Saskatchewan.
The website is web.me.com/difdbs/Vanish_W_Sask/Welcome.html.
He launched the project in 2002 after Delia lost its two elevators, one to a fire and another to demolition.
Pearson hopes to add Manitoba to his research in the future. He can be reached at 403-364-3925 or 403-650-6940.
