After training 320 future leaders in face-to-face sessions, the

Saskatchewan Council for Community Development decided there had to be

a faster way.

So the council has launched a website to churn out more people educated

about how to keep rural communities alive.

There is a “huge demand” and a waiting list for the council’s

face-to-face sessions, said Judy Riou, administrator of the council’s

website. The sessions have been delivered in 80 communities since 1998,

but time and distance constraints for both the participants and those

who teach the course led to the on-line site.

Riou said those interested in the training can check it out at

www.leadershipexcellence.ca.

There is a fee for taking the course, said Riou, because the council is

a non-profit group and needs to pay for its activities.

The charge is $50 per module or $500 for the entire 11-session course.
