A rural cousin’s need for a better form of advertising immersed Janet
Milne in a new hobby.
The Saskatoon computer worker heard from her cousin in St. Brieux,
Sask., about how difficult it was to get around to trade shows to
market his handmade willow furniture.
So she designed an internet website. Then she decided all crafters need
the same help. Last year Milne started her home-based business helping
put on-line what she calls “a crafters’ community.”
She will design web pages for individual crafters for a fee or allow
them to put theirs under her umbrella website at prairiecraftshow.com.
She invites all craftspeople, craft stores and suppliers in Manitoba,
Saskatchewan and Alberta to locate under her site. She also has a
listing for towns to note upcoming craft and show events. She said tea
rooms and specialty shops might also want to be part of the site.
The advantage of internet marketing is that information can be updated
quickly. Brochures can grow stale. Reach Milne at her website or phone
