Get straight

As in life

We are all enrolled in a course called Life. We don’t have a choice. As long as we are living we are in a learning situation. And the marks we get in that course depend entirely on us and how we handle our lives.

How can you get straight As in your course of life? If you practise the following, then As will most likely follow.

Accept what happens. Mean, unfair or tragic events happen to us or to others. We often can’t do much about the fact that they happened. We can usually do something about how we respond to them, and in some cases, we may be able to prevent them from happening again. But until we stop acting as if the event hasn’t happened, we never start to do something about it.

Analyze what happened. How did things develop? Where were some early signs that something was going wrong? What can we learn from what happened? What could we do differently next time?

Prepare yourself

Anticipate what might happen in the future. What do you know now that you didn’t know in the past? What steps can you take to be as much in charge of the future as you can be? What is your “game plan?” What are your strategies for coping with yourself and others? If things change, how can you prepare yourself to cope with them?

Attitudes are a key factor in what happens in life. Your outlook on the future will definitely affect it. Negative thinking and attitudes produce negative feelings and behaviors. Think positive. Expect the best of others, and especially of yourself. Perhaps things will not always turn out as you hope or expect, but the more positive you think, the better things will likely be.

Act on your plans. The greatest plans in the world are useless if they are never tried. If you have accepted the reality of the situation, analyzed it to your best ability, anticipated and planned for the future, and have a positive attitude, your final and most important step is to “push the button” and do what you have to do.

And if you worked seriously on each of the above steps, you have an excellent chance of getting the final A of life, that of achievement.
