Abbotsford turf growers Bert and Debbie Bos of Bos Sod Farm have been named the 2007 outstanding young farmers for British Columbia.
Former landscapers, the Boses began growing sod for the residential market on 20 acres in 1993-94.
A few years later, they refocused on growing turf for such specialty markets as golf greens and athletic fields and have since expanded onto a total of 100 acres.
“We track seven different grass types in a total of 43 plots,” Bert said.
Although the Boses have sold turf as far away as Manitoba, Montana and Idaho, most is sold within a 400 kilometre radius.
