Alberta went across most of the sectors in agriculture to pick its nominees for the Outstanding Young Farmers program.
Alberta’s 2008 semi-finalists are:
- Dairy farmers Doug and Dawn Elzinga from Peers, Alta., Foothills Dairy.
- Grain farmers and custom balers Derek and Stacey Mathon of Innisfail,
Alta.
- Purebred cow-calf producers and mixed farmers Duane and Christie Movald from Breton, Alta., Movald Ranches.
One of the three farming couples will advance as the province’s nominee to the national competition, which will be held in Calgary Nov. 18-23.
The Alberta representative will be decided July 8 during the Calgary Stampede.
The nominees were selected according to the progress in their agricultural career, use of soil, water and energy conservation practices, crop and livestock production history, financial and management practices and the family’s contribution to their community and province.
