Alberta looks for outstanding young farmers

Nominations are open for Alberta’s 2007 outstanding young farmers.

Nominees must be between 18 and 39 and be farm operators deriving two-thirds of their income from farm sources.

They must demonstrate progress made during their careers, environmental and safety practices, crop and livestock history, financial practices and contributions to the community.

Selections will be made at the Calgary Stampede July 10 and one farmer or farming couple will be selected for the national event in the fall of 2007.

Duckworth had graduated from Lethbridge College’s journalism program in 1974, later earning a degree in communications from the University of Calgary. Duckworth won many awards from the Canadian Farm Writers Association, American Agricultural Editors Association, the North American Agricultural Journalists and the International Agriculture Journalists Association.
