The federal Rural Secretariat is looking for young people with passion.

It would like to honour three youths aged 18-29 with the Young Leaders in Rural Canada Awards. Young people who have demonstrated outstanding achievements and contributions to rural, remote and northern Canada, at the local, regional or national level, may be nominated. Awards will be presented in the categories of innovation, leadership and partnership.

Nomination forms and information may be obtained by calling the Rural Secretariat at 888-781-2222 or at www.rural.gc.ca. The completed forms must be mailed by Jan. 17, 2005, to Sylvie Chartrand at the Rural Secretariat, 1341 Baseline Road, Tower 7, 6th floor, Ottawa, Ont., K1A 0C5, or e-mail chartrs@agr.gc.ca.

Valerie Roy of the secretariat said one of the 2004 winners was a youth who was “part of every board of directors in his community.”

The award has no cash value but winners receive an art object at a ceremony to be scheduled in 2005.
