REGINA — A yearling Gelbvieh bull sold for $30,000 today at the breed’s national sale at Canadian Western Agribition.

Consigned by Royal Western Gelbvieh of Innisfail, Alta., the bull, RWG Yikes 1512, will be going to Prairie Hills Gelbvieh at Gladstone, North Dakota.  Royal Western, owned by Rodney and Tanya Hollman, offered a choice of eight yearling bulls, selling a full possession and half semen interest. This was the only bull offered in the sale.

Prairie Hills also bought the high selling female for $8,750. It was a 2006 cow from Fladeland Livestock of Gladmar, Sask.

Fourteen females were sold for an average of  $5,921. In addition, a flush was sold for $3,000.

The national show was held yesterday. The grand champion bull and female came from Severtson Farms of Innisfail, Alta., and the reserve went to V & V Farms of Redcliff, Alta.

Davidson Gelbvieh of Pontiex, Sask., had the reserve champion female.

The show and sale marked the 40th anniversary for the breed in Canada
