The extended spell of warm December weather is coming to an end tonight as a low pressure system tracks across the Prairies bringing a mixed bag of precipitation as it tracks east.
There are wind and snowfall warnings in Alberta.
A rapidly developing band of snow over central Alberta is expected to bring 10 to 15 centimetres of snow over the region.
In Saskatchewan, rain ahead of the system will turn to snow tonight as temperatures drop below freezing.
A swath of snow of five centimetres or more is possible from the Kindersley area through Indian Head to the Manitoba border.
In addition, a band of freezing rain is possible for a few hours as rain transitions to snow.
A freezing rain warning has been issued for the Kindersley and Outlook areas and may be extended east this evening.
In Manitoba snow accumulations of up to five cm or more are possible, mostly north of the TransCanada Highway.
Colder, sub-zero weather is expected in the wake of this system.
