Grain farmers have one more thing to add to their list of harvest duties.
Time is running short to register for a harvest sample kit. Sign-up for the kit can be done until Oct. 15, which can be completed online or by calling 800-853-6705.
Since August, more than 4,400 registered harvest samples have arrived at the Canadian Grain Commission from producers.
However, more samples are needed for this year’s crop to ensure the most accurate quality data.
Producers are urged to send in their completed samples as soon as possible.

Canada and China discuss disputes over canola and EVs, says Ottawa
Senior Canadian and Chinese officials discussed bilateral trade disputes involving canola and electric vehicles on Friday, Ottawa said, but gave no indication of any immediate breakthrough.
In exchange for taking part in the voluntary and free program, producers will be given unofficial grade and quality information about their grain.
Some of this information includes:
• Protein content on cereal grains and pulses.
• Oil, protein and chlorophyll content for canola.
• Oil and protein content and iodine value for flaxseed.
• Oil and protein for mustard seed and soybeans.
The commission uses the data to market the sale of Canadian grain each fall. The information also furthers research into grading issues and finding new uses and markets.
Free kits also include postage-paid envelopes and instructions for mailing samples.
