Winnipeg — Harvest operations across Manitoba were slowed down by rain and cooler temperatures at the start of September.
Haying operations and crop development of later maturing crops were also affected by the weather, according to the latest provincial crop report from Manitoba Agriculture.
The recent weather was also causing lodging and quality loss in some crop types, said the report.
The winter wheat harvest was nearing completion in many areas with average to below average yields and below average quality.
Harvest of spring wheat, oats, barley and canola continued in some areas of Manitoba. Early reports indicate average yields and quality. Swathing of canola and spring cereals also continued where field conditions allowed.
A return to warmer, drier weather would allow field operations to resume and help corn, soybeans and sunflowers reach maturity prior to the first fall frost, said the report.
