Viterra opens new terminal

Viterra has officially opened a new high throughput terminal near Sexsmith, Alta., about 18 kilometres north of Grande Prairie.The new $22 million facility offers 30,000 tonnes of grain storage and is able to load 104 rail cars.Local resident and farmers, Viterra employees and local government officials attended the Aug. 19 ceremonies.Mayo Schmidt, president and chief executive officer of Viterra, said the investment “underscores our confidence that the Peace River Region will continue to play a significant rolein Canadian and global agriculture for years to come.” The company is also building a full service retail centre on the site, which will offer seed, fertilizer, crop protection products, equipment, financing and agronomic advice. Construction is underway and expected to be completed by the spring of 2011.
