McGill University is taking a leading role in efforts to improve food safety.
The Montreal university is establishing a chair in food safety, the first in Canada.
The Ian and Jayne Munro Chair in Food Safety is being created with help from a donation from leading food scientist and former McGill professor Ian Munro and his wife, Jayne.
Munro is now a vice-president and senior scientific consultant at Cantox Health Services International in Mississauga, Ont. He has devoted his academic and business careers to identifying and controlling toxic constituents in food.
The Chair will be based in McGill’s faculty of agricultural and environmental sciences and will lead the newly established Food Safety and Quality program.
It will be officially established on Friday.
