A nine-year-old boy died June 12 when he drowned in a farm dugout north of Vauxhall, Alta.
Taber-Vauxhall RCMP reported that the child and his brother, 12, were getting water from the dugout to pour into gopher holes. The boy fell in and could not swim. Help obtained by his brother arrived too late to save him.
RCMP said they would not release the boy’s name.
The two youngsters had been told by their parents not to play in or go near the fenced dugout, the RCMP said. They reminded the public of the importance of teaching children water safety and about the hazards of any open body of water.
