A Calgary-based company has announced plans to build a new sulfur fertilizer production facility near Rocky Mountain House, Alta.

Sulvaris Inc. announced in a media release yesterday that it plans to construct a new 217,000 tonne per year facility in 2013, with production targeted for 2014.

Sulvaris, described as a “conversion company” on its website, was founded in 2012 after the amalgamation of Sulphur Solutions Inc., Carbon Solutions Inc. and Sour Gas Solutions Inc.

The new facility will produce a sulfur fertilizer called Vitasul. According to the release, the production process turns sulfur particles into pellets and then into granules. When wet, the granules break back down into sulfur particles.

The company says the process “provides quick response and consistent feeding of sulfate to crops in the season of application.”
