Winnipeg, June 30 – Saskatchewan crops are generally in good to excellent shape, according to the government’s weekly report for the week June 21 to 27.
Most of the province saw rain over the period with many areas receiving more than 30 mm.
Haying has just begun with seven per cent of the crop already cut. The bulk of it is in good condition.
So far, very little crop damage has been reported but disease watchers are keeping an eye on root-rot, fusarium and sclerotinia. Spraying is nearing completion.
The report said a good part of the crop is in rated as “excellent” — 27 percent of spring wheat, 43 percent of durum, 26 percent of canola, 41 percent of lentils, 38 percent of peas and 22 percent of chickpeas are in excellent condition. About 25 percent of pulses, oilseeds and spring cereals are ahead of their normal stage of development for this time of year.
