Saskatchewan farmers managed to seed a little more land In the last week despite the excess moisture.Saskatchewan Agriculture’s weekly crop report, which was released today, said 73 percent of the 2010 crop had been seeded as of June 14, up from 70 percent the week before. More heavy rain fell in most parts of the province yesterday and today and final crop insurance deadlines are now met, which means little more will be seeded this year.Western areas are more advanced than eastern areas.Seeding progress is highly variable within regions, with some crop districts reporting 99 percent of seeding complete while others are only 31 percent completed. The northeast has only 50 percent complete, east-central 56 percent, southeast 75 percent, west-central 87 percent, southwest 88 percent and northwest 90 percent.Cropland topsoil moisture remains virtually unchanged from last week at 55 percent surplus and 45 percent adequate.Topsoil moisture on hay land and pasture is rated as 33 percent surplus and 67 percent adequate. Spring seeded crops are well behind normal development. Crops are showing signs of stress from excess moisture.
