When Corrine Gibson saw OSU Empress 3100 walk into the show ring at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair she was determined to buy the young black Angus female.

“I saw her and I had to own her,” said Gibson, who with her husband Clayton owns Six Mile Red Angus at Fir Mountain, Sask.

She made a good decision because the yearling heifer went on to become Supreme champion not only at the 2014 show but won the same event this year with a bull calf at side.

Alberta harvest wrapping up: report

Harvest operations advanced to 96 per cent complete in Alberta as of Oct. 7, with only a few late-seeded cereal and canola fields remaining, according to the latest provincial crop report.

Gibsons own a half interest along with Peter Fritjers of Premier Livestock of Milverton, Ont., and Rob Hasson of Guelph. The pair will be shown at Canadian Western Agribition during the Angus show on Nov. 26.

This female was born in the United States and is part of the Oklahoma State University breeding program. The university has maintained a large herd of Angus and Hereford cattle since the 1920s. The university also raises Brangus, Limousin and Simmental.  The cattle are part of the animal sciences research program but some are available for sale and are exhibited at major livestock shows every year.
