MOSCOW, Oct 8 (Reuters) – Russia’s winter grains were sown during dry weather in some southern regions and need rain to improve their condition, Pyotr Chekmarev, the head of the agriculture ministry’s crop growing department, told reporters on Thursday.
Rains are needed in Krasnodar, Volgograd, Rostov and Saratov regions, he said on the sidelines of an agriculture conference in Moscow.
“But it is too early to panic,” he said.
In general, the situation is the same as last year, Chekmarev added.
Last autumn winter grains in Russia were hit by dry weather, but spring weather then improved their condition.
