Saskatchewan RCMP laid 48 impaired driving charges over the Thanksgiving long weekend Oct. 11-14 relating to stops of 3,014 drivers.
The numbers were provided in an Oct. 21 news release outlining Operation Impact, a national strategy to reduce collisions through increased patrols, education and enforcement.
In addition to charges for impaired driving, another 25 suspensions were issued that related to intoxication. These are applied when readings on screening devices are not high enough for criminal charges.
Other charges included:
1,283 for speeding
34 related to seatbelts
34 criminal charges that were not related to driving
31 for driving while prohibited
19 for distracted driving
15 for careless driving
3 for following too closely
RCMP also advised motorists to use winter tires, put an emergency kit in their vehicles and have those vehicles inspected before winter weather begins.
