An Ontario dairy farmer lost most of both arms while working on his tractor this week.

Ken Paul, 69, became entangled after attempting to attach a power take-off Dec. 17. The accident, which severed one arm at the shoulder and one below the elbow, occurred when Paul’s clothing caught on an axle.

He was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Paul and his son, Bruce, run the 700 acre Appaulo Farms at Carp, raising purebred Holsteins.

Each year in Ontario, there are 264 critical injuries on farms requiring hospitalization and 25 deaths. Paul also lost a leg in a previous farm accident.
