Alberta premier Rachel Notley announced six new members of cabinet Tuesday during a swearing-in ceremony.

The new members boost the cabinet to 19 members, up from 12 when the government was sworn in last June.

Sarah Hoffman was named deputy premier, while continuing her position as minister of health.

Brandy Payne has been named associate minister of health.

Lori Sigurdson was moved from jobs, skills, training and labour and advanced education to minister of seniors and housing.

The move is seen as a demotion after the disastrous roll-out of Bill 6, the farm safety bill under her ministry.

Agriculture minister Oneil Carlier becomes deputy house leader as well as continuing his role in agriculture.

Christina Gray is now minister of labour and minister responsible for democratic renewal.

Richard Feehan was named minister of indigenous relations, formerly named the department of aboriginal relations.

Stephanie McLean takes over the Service Alberta portfolio from Danielle Larivee, who remains minister of municipal affairs.

McLean also takes over as minister of the Status of Women, formerly held by Shannon Phillips.

Ricardo Miranda has been named minister of culture and tourism.

Marlin Schmidt was named minister of advanced education.

The cabinet remains gender balanced with 10 women and nine men. Nine of the ministers are from Edmonton, six from Calgary and four from outside the major areas.

Two of the cabinet ministers are expecting babies.

Stephanie McLean is expecting her baby this month and newly named associated health minister Payne is expecting a baby later in the year.
