The University of Saskatchewan is adding two new researchers on rural technology and water quality.
The new positions are being funded with a $1.9 million grant from the federal government’s Canada Research Chairs program.
Ken Coates will work at the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy, starting next April. His research will focus on the barriers that keep rural communities from enjoying the same technological and scientific advances as larger centres.
Markus Hecker of the university’s School of Environment and Sustainability will focus on developing ways to assess the effects of pollution and climate change on aquatic animals and water quality in western Canadian watersheds.
“These two new Canada Research Chairs recognize the strength and growing preeminence in several of our signature areas of research,” said U of S vice-president Karen Chad in a news release.
