Enhanced diagnostic testing services will help western Canadian livestock producers meet international regulatory standards.
Prairie Diagnostic Services Inc., a non-profit corporation located at the University of Saskatchewan’s Western College of Veterinary Medicine, has used $585,000 in federal funding to purchase equipment to test for toxins in animal feeds and expand other services.
A media release highlights the early detection of avian and swine influenza as focuses of the initiative.
“The new services will enhance the value of our laboratory to western Canada’s animal production and veterinary community by expanding the breadth and depth of our diagnostic capability and expertise,” said PDS chief executive officer Marilyn Jonas.
“We see this as important for individual clients and as a key component of our broad role in animal disease detection and surveillance in the western Canadian region, and in Canada as a whole.”
