WINNIPEG — A new crushing plant being built by Cargill Ltd. in Camrose will soon be providing another outlet for Canada’s canola production, as the company is set to begin taking delivery from farmers on March 24.
The facility, which was first announced in 2012, will be able to crush 2,500 tonnes of canola per day when operating at capacity. The plant also includes two separate unloading lines, which can each move 500 tonnes per hour.
In a letter to local residents earlier this month, Cargill said construction was on target for completion this spring, with an official opening planned for an as yet unknown date in the summer.
Cargill is already contracting with farmers, and the company’s communication department confirmed that it will begin taking seed deliveries on March 24. However, just when that seed will start to be processed and the time frame for ramping up to full capacity was not provided.
