WINNIPEG — Winter wheat and rye harvest has begun in parts of Manitoba, according to the latest crop report from Manitoba Agriculture.
Spring wheat, barley and field peas harvest has also begun in parts of the province.
Most crops are in the grain-filling or podding stages, with some later seeded crops at the end of flowering.
The report said crops are developing well because recent weather has been generally favorable.
Hay and pasture conditions vary but are overall slightly improved due to recent moisture. Second cut hay growth is advancing well, the report said.
Some producers in the Interlake and central regions are monitoring lygus bugs in canola, while diamondback moth and bertha armyworm trap counts are showing low to moderate damage risk.
