An online petition calling for the Manitoba government to save stranded cattle in northern Manitoba because of flood water has attracted more than 19,000 signatures.
The petition claims water pumping by the Pas’ Local Water Pumping Committee of the RM of Kelsey has placed part of the Berscheid farm under water and stranded 400 head of cattle.
According to the petition, the cattle herd is surrounded by four to eight feet of water and are out of feed.
The Western Producer has not yet verified the petition’s claims.

Farm cash receipts rise in first half of 2025 on livestock gains
Farm cash receipts in the first half of the year were up 3.3 per cent over the same period last year buoyed by livestock receipts. Overall receipts between January and June totalled $49.6 billion, up $1.6 billion from the same period last year, Statistics Canada reported.
Manitoba Agriculture staff have been in contact with the affected producer, a provincial spokesperson said.
“To offer assistance in determining feed quality and feed options. More generally, the department has resources to support livestock producers in the area who have been affected by excess moisture on feeding, budgeting and marketing strategies.”
The spokesperson said the Province does operate a “pumping system” in the region but it doesn’t control how the pumps are used.
“Ongoing operations are guided through regular interaction with a pumping committee that has representatives from local agricultural producer organizations, the RM and the provincial government.”
