Canadian cattle producers may sell breeding stock to Libya.

The Libyan border closed in 2003 due to BSE. In a Sept. 27 announcement about renewed live cattle trade,  the federal government estimates this opportunity could be worth up to $3 million.

In 2011, Statistics Canada reported Canada exported about $51 million worth of goods to Libya. Almost all were equipment and vehicles.

Canada is now allowed to ship live cattle to 40 different countries.
