Lakeland College has received another Sweet donation.

Judy Sweet donated $150,000 to help the college modernize and expand the Livestock Research Centre.

The conversion of the former bull test station at the Vermilion campus into a Livestock Research Centre began in 2012 with the addition of GrowSafe technology for monitoring the feed intake of individual animals. New cattle and sheep handling systems and a scale system were added the following year.

Sweet’s donation will expand the centre further with an expansion of the facility and create an area for the public to discuss applied research projects.

“An important part of applied research is showcasing the technology and sharing the results,” Lakeland College president Alice Wainwright-Steward said in a news release.

Sweet’s donation was made a year after she made a $100,000 donation from her company, Sportaken Holdings, and a $100,000 donation from the Garth Sweet Simmental Foundation.

Sweet said she continues to make donations because she likes the livestock research that is being done at Lakeland College and its focus on the college’s Student Managed Farm.
