Rural Albertans with slow or no internet access may soon have improved access to higher speed internet.
A report by the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties about rural broadband access said improvements have been made in rural access, but there are still gaps in coverage.
Connecting the Dots: Alberta Rural Broadband Coverage Study has identified broadband coverage township by township.
Coinciding with the release of the report, the provincial government announced funding to help municipalities who plan to provide high-speed internet in their communities. The program will fund up to 75 percent of a project and is targeted to areas that are underserved based on the coverage study.
