DENVER, Colo. — Colyer Herefords of Idaho ruled at the National Western Stock Show yesterday.
Their bull, born in January 2012, C Miles McKee 2103 ET, was crowned grand champion horned bull. They also won reserve champion.
Miles McKee is owned in partnership with Sullivan Farms of Iowa and Curtis and Jackie Castle of Oklahoma, who together purchased a three quarter interest in the yearling at Colyer’s annual production sale last year for a world record price of $600,000.
The young bull has already sired 80 calves and its mother was also a national champion at the Denver show in 2004.

A Canadian connection saw the senior champion horned Hereford banner go to Big Gully Farms of Maidstone, Sask., and Joel White of Buffalo, Wyoming. Named WCC/CC 1009 GREAT DIVIDE 102, this two-year-old bull was also grand champion Hereford at the 2013 Canadian Western Agribition. The bull will be returning to Canada after the Denver show, which runs from Jan. 11-26.
The polled grand champion came from Tucker Cattle Co of North Platte, Nebraska, and reserve went to Ward Ranch of Sheridan, Wyoming.
The female show is tomorrow.
