Drivers are advised to watch for pedestrians along Alberta highways May 4 while the 37th annual highway cleanup is underway in most of the province.
Snow and rain in some northern regions have delayed the event until May 11, but May 4 is the day in areas south of Grande Prairie.
4-H clubs and other community organizations participate in the event for fundraising purposes as well as litter control.
Running from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the cleanup will involve several thousand kilometres of main and secondary highways in the province.
Last year, almost 10,000 km of roadside were cleaned by various non-profit organizations. Payments range from $55 to $100 per km.
Road signs will be posted where the cleanup is taking place and motorists are advised to use caution in those areas.
