Cargill’s meat processing plant in High River could be back in operation by
next week.

Cargill has found a portable water filtration system that can draw and
process water from a local source. The Alberta government will provide a pump
and irrigation piping and will expedite the necessary approvals.

Alberta premier Alison Redford was at the High River processing plant to
announce the arrangement to get the plant back in production.

Cargill employs about 2,000 people and processes about 4,500 head of
cattle each week.

While Cargill’s facilities weren’t flooded, the plant requires access to water.
The flood knocked out High River’s water supply. The province will continue to
work with the Town of High River to get the water system operating soon.
