EDMONTON — Rural schools will receive $200 per month to help access high speed internet.

“I am pleased to announce today that we are providing $1.3 million to school boards across the province to expand the SuperNet bandwidth, allowing for better videoconferencing that reduces staffing costs and improves students’ access to information,” Alberta premier Alison Redford said when announcing the funding at the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties conference.

“Students and teachers in more than 700 schools in rural Alberta will be able to take advantage of the ever increasing use of technology in the classroom.”

The Alberta SuperNet connects 429 communities with more than 12,000 kilometres of fibre optic cable and wireless infrastructure to classrooms, libraries and other public facilities across the province.
