A new Canadian Foodgrains Bank project will provide food vouchers to 13,000 Syrian refugees in Lebanon. These refugees are among the millions of people forced to leave their homes because of the violence in Syria.

The $1.5 million project increases the organization’s total response to the Syrian crisis to $3.1 million.

More than 45,000 people affected by the conflict will now receive food each month through projects supported by Foodgrains Bank.

The project will give food vouchers to eligible families that can then be used to buy food in local markets, instead of distributing food directly to people in need.

Food vendors near where the refugees have settled have been selected to participate in the project, allowing recipients to use the vouchers at their own convenience. Providing vouchers instead of food helps bolster local economies.
