A fire razed a building at a cattle auction mart in Melita, Man. this weekend.

Brock Taylor, co-owner of Taylor Auctions, said the fire started Saturday evening around 8 p.m.

The blaze destroyed the main structure at Taylor Auctions and some cattle pens, but no animals or humans were on the site at the time of the fire.

Taylor said Taylor Auctions is a marshalling yard for Canadian cattle sold into the United States.

“We don’t have (cattle) sales there anymore. We suspended our sales a couple of years ago,” he said.

“We’re a collection and processing yard for cattle that go to feedlots in the States…. We move thousands of cattle (into the U.S.).”

Taylor said they plan to construct a new building and “get back to business” as soon as possible.

The Taylor family had insurance for the structure.

The cause of the fire is not known.
