A Saskatchewan farmer wants the Canadian Transportation Agency to prevent Canadian National Railway from delisting 53 producer car loading sites on the Prairies.
Cam Goff of Hanley Sask., filed a service complaint against the railway Dec. 11.
CN announced earlier this year it would delist and remove tracks and switches from unused sites. It said it would begin the removal as early as January.
In his application to the CTA, Goff, who is also Canadian Wheat Board director for District 6, said delisting the sites could deprive thousands of farmers of local service and force them to haul grain longer distances, increasing their costs.
Goff said the CTA should establish a process that will enable all affected parties to have input into any decision to delist a producer car loading site. The railways can now make such a decision unilaterally.
Given the time constraints, Goff asked the CTA to move as quickly as possible on the issue.
