PARIS, Nov 3 (Reuters) – The European Union’s executive raised its forecast for this year’s soft wheat harvest in the bloc on Tuesday to 149.2 million tonnes, up 4.6 million tonnes from its previous outlook a month ago.
This was now above last year’s record 148.7 million tonnes harvested last year.
In monthly supply-and-demand projections posted on its website, the European Commission also lifted its estimate of this year’s EU barley harvest to 60.9 million tonnes from 59.0 million, now also above last year’s 60.2 million tonnes.
For the corn crop, it lowered its outlook for this year’s harvest to 57.4 million from 58.4 million last month. This was still well below a record 77.9 million tonnes in 2014.
A summer heatwave came too late to hurt the winter wheat crop but damaged spring sown corn.
