Derailment, fire force evacuations

Sask. RCMP say a train carrying hazardous materials has derailed one kilometre east of Clair, Sask., about 2 hours north of Regina.

Police say the initial call came in at 10:39 a.m. today and, in a press release, say “some cars have derailed and there is heavy smoke and reports of fire.”

There are no reported injuries.

Photos of the scene on social media show billowing black smoke rising 50 to 75 metres into the air.

RCMP have evacuated the village of Clair, population 50, as well as some nearby farms. Highway 5 is also closed near the scene and detours are being set up.
