CWB has increased its ownership of Prairie West Terminal Ltd, a farmer-owned grain handling company in west-central Saskatchewan, to a little over 12.1 percent.
It announced today it has bought 2,394 PWT shares, or about 10 percent of the outstanding shares.
It already owned 500 shares, or about two percent, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Mission Terminal Inc.
Prairie West Terminal has a concrete elevator located between Dodsland and Plenty, Sask. It also owns wooden elevators in those two communities as well as elevators in Luseland and Kindersley.
“This investment is a great opportunity to participate in an innovative farmer-owned organization that prioritizes farmers’ interests,” said Ian White, CWB president and chief executive officer, in a statement.
CWB’s investment in PWT is part of its strategy to position CWB as a strong and viable Canadian-focused grain company that includes farmer ownership, the news release said.
