Crop development is delayed across Alberta, according to the province’s latest crop report.

At an average of 83 percent, however, most crops are rated good to excellent, ahead of the five-year average.

For the period ending June 30, most spring cereals were in the early stem elongation to early flag leaf stage, winter cereals were heading and canola and peas beginning to flower.

Heavy rains have saturated some soils in northeastern Alberta with excess moisture rated at eight percent. Rain has boosted crop conditions in central Alberta, where 76 percent of crops in the region are rated as good to excellent, up significantly over recent weeks.

Conditions fare better in the south and exceed a 90 percent good or excellent rating in the northeast and northwest.

Crop conditions are rated the worst in the Peace region, where 62 percent of crops are in good or excellent condition.
