Seven cooked and diced chicken products are subject to recall due to possible contamination with listeria bacteria.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said Sept. 27 that the products were distributed at retail outlets across most of Canada, including the four western provinces, and are being voluntarily recalled by the food industry.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall, which was triggered by CFIA test results.
Tip Top Poultry, Reuven International Ltd., Sysco and AlimPlus Inc. are all recalling cooked chicken meat products with pack dates of July 29, 2019. The Tip Top product is in the 13.64 kilogram package, while the others are in 4.54 kg sizes.
“Consumers should not consume and distributors, retailers and food service establishments such as hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, hospitals and nursing homes should not sell or use the recalled products,” the CFIA said in a news release.
Recalled products should be thrown out or returned places of purchase.
Food contaminated by listeria may look and smell fine but if eaten it can cause vomiting, fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.
