Two brands of cheese products distributed nationally in Canada are the subject of recall due to potential contamination with listeria bacteria.

Yanni and Gopi cheese items are being voluntarily recalled by Tree of Life Canada. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said Sept. 17 that the recall was triggered by a recall in another country, which it did not specify.

No one in Canada has reported illness from consumption of the products.

The recall list includes several types of hand-braided string cheese, baskets of feta and two types of grilling cheese. A complete list, with product codes, is available on the CFIA website.

Those who have purchased the cheese items should throw them out or return them to the place of purchase.

Food contaminated with listeria monocytogenes looks normal but can cause vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.
