(Reuters) – ICE canola futures edged higher on Tuesday in light volume, supported by featureless technical buying and a softer Canadian dollar, which tends to make Canadian products more competitive globally, traders said.
Most-active November canola ended 50 cents higher at $447.50 per tonne.
Chart-based resistance was noted at the contract’s 20-day moving average near $449.
The November-January canola spread traded 807 times and widened to settle at $7.10, premium January, from $6.90 on Monday.
Total trading volume fell to 11,095 contracts, the lowest since July 17.
Chicago Board of Trade August soybeans settled down 2-1/2 U.S. cents at US$8.85-3/4 a bushel.

The Canadian dollar weakened to a near one-month low against its U.S. counterpart as the greenback broadly climbed and recent domestic data supported the view that the Bank of Canada could cut interest rates this year.
OUTSIDE MARKETS
Light crude oil nearby futures in New York was at US$57.17 per barrel.
In the afternoon, the Canadian dollar was trading around US76.09 cents. The U.S. dollar was C$1.3142.
